Investment Planning & Advice

Make your money work for you

Investment Planning

Investing isn’t about chasing trends or taking unnecessary risks – it’s about making smart decisions that align with your goals and future plans.

Whether you’re looking for long-term growth, a steady income, or a balance of both, investment planning helps you take control of your financial future.

When you choose to invest, the value of your investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested.

What is Investment Planning?

Investment planning is about putting your money to work in a way that matches your financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. It involves building a balanced, well-diversified portfolio that helps you grow your wealth while managing risk.

The key to successful investing isn’t about timing the market – it’s about having a plan and sticking to it.

  • Grow your wealth – Make your money work harder over time
  • Build financial security – Plan for life’s big milestones with confidence
  • Minimise risk – A structured approach helps protect against market ups and downs
  • Maximise tax efficiency – Use tax allowances to keep more of your returns

Investment Options

There are many ways to invest, and we’ll help you find the right approach for you. We also review any existing investments you have to ensure they’re performing well and still aligned with your goals.

Cash ISAs

The new cash ISA allowance will take effect from April 6, 2027.  This change will reduce the amount you can save tax-free each year from £20,000 to £12,000 for individuals under 65, while over-65s will still be able to save the full £20,000.

Stocks & Shares ISAs

A Stocks & Shares ISA allows you to invest in a range of assets while keeping your returns free from income tax and capital gains tax.

Each tax year, you can invest up to £20,000 (as of 2024/25) into your ISA, making it a tax-efficient way to grow your wealth over the long term.

With a Stocks & Shares ISA, you can invest in:

  • Individual shares in UK and global companies
  • Investment funds like Unit Trusts & OEICs
  • Corporate and government bonds
  • Exchange-traded funds (ETFs)

Unlike cash ISAs, a Stocks & Shares ISA offers growth potential, but investments can go up and down in value. We help you choose the right investments based on your risk tolerance and long-term goals.

Pensions & Retirement Funds

Pensions remain one of the most tax-efficient ways to save for retirement. When you contribute to a pension, you receive tax relief, meaning the government tops up your contributions.

For example:

  • A basic-rate taxpayer gets a 20% top-up (e.g. a £100 contribution costs just £80)
  • A higher-rate taxpayer can claim an extra 20% relief through their tax return

You can invest your pension savings in various assets, including stocks, bonds, and property funds, allowing them to grow tax-free over time. We can help you:

  • Maximise pension contributions while staying within tax allowances
  • Consolidate old pensions from previous employers
  • Plan your retirement income through drawdown or annuities

Planning ahead means you’ll have the financial freedom to enjoy retirement on your terms.

Unit Trusts & OEICs

If you want to invest but don’t want to pick individual stocks, Unit Trusts and Open-Ended Investment Companies (OEICs) could be the right choice.

These are professionally managed funds that pool your money with other investors to spread risk across multiple assets. Benefits include:

  • Diversification – Your money is spread across many investments, reducing risk
  • Active management – Professional fund managers make decisions on your behalf
  • Access to different markets – Invest in UK, US, and global markets easily

We help you select funds that align with your growth goals and risk appetite, ensuring your money is working as hard as possible.

Bonds & Fixed Income

Bonds are a more stable investment choice, ideal for those who want steady returns with less volatility. With bonds, you lend money to companies or the government, and in return, you receive:

  • Regular interest payments (coupons)
  • A return of your original investment at maturity

Types of bonds include:

  • Government bonds (gilts) – Issued by the UK government, typically lower risk
  • Corporate bonds – Issued by companies, offering higher returns but slightly more risk
  • Inflation-linked bonds – Protect your money against rising inflation

Bonds can be an excellent choice for balancing risk in your portfolio and ensuring a more predictable income.

Property Investment

Investing in property has long been a popular way to build wealth. Whether you’re looking at buy-to-let, commercial property, or property funds, real estate can provide:

Rental income – A steady stream of passive income
Capital growth – Property values tend to rise over time
Diversification – A solid asset to balance your investment portfolio

However, property investment comes with costs such as stamp duty, maintenance, and tax on rental income. We can help you decide if property investment fits your long-term strategy and explore alternative property funds that allow you to invest in real estate without the hassle of direct ownership.
